Silver Star/Phoenix Drive roundabout construction information hub
👋Welcome to the Silver Star roundabout project hub. You will find the most up to date information to keep you informed of this critical City project and to help you plan your commute.
ℹ️September 2 - Paving Schedule
Paving is scheduled on Silver Star Rd. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the week of September 2. The detour will be in place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. only to accommodate the travelling of school buses through the area.
ℹ️August 15 - Traffic Advisory: Road closure
Beginning Wednesday, August 20, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Silver Star Road at Tillicum Road will be closed to southbound traffic to accommodate final paving and concrete works for the new roundabout at Phoenix Road. Silver Star Road will reopen to traffic during the evening and weekend.
Motorists will be rerouted via Tillicum Road. Northbound traffic will still be allowed to proceed through the roundabout. Please remain attentive to posted detour signs and comply with all traffic control devices and speed limits to ensure public safety.
Final paving and concrete works are scheduled to be complete by end of August. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or other issues that may impact the contractor’s schedule.
Remaining construction will include landscaping and the installation of new streetlighting. Additionally, the centre of the new roundabout will feature a Silver Star gateway design, contributing to the overall enhancement of the area.
Completion of the project is scheduled for the end of September.
ℹ️August 4, 2025 update

As we round the corner into August, so does the roundabout construction of the Silver Star and Phoenix Drive roundabout.
Progress is being made on the installation of curbing and paving of the bottom lift of asphalt. Next, we will see crews continue with the installation of streetlights and landscaping, and the design of a Silver Star gateway with the donation of ski lift chairs.
Benefits of roundabouts
- Improved Traffic Flow: Roundabouts reduce stop-and-go traffic, allowing vehicles to move more smoothly and efficiently through intersections, especially during peak hours.
- Enhanced Safety: By eliminating traditional left turns and reducing conflict points, roundabouts significantly lower the risk of serious collisions, including T-bone and head-on crashes.
- Reduced Vehicle Emissions: With fewer stops and less idling, roundabouts help decrease fuel consumption and vehicle emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment.
- Lower Long-Term Maintenance Costs: Unlike signalized intersections, roundabouts don’t require traffic signals, which reduces maintenance and operational costs over time.
- Aesthetic and Public Art: Roundabouts can be landscaped or feature public art, enhancing the visual appeal of the area and creating a welcoming gateway for the community.
Construction remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of September.
Project start
On Tuesday, April 22, crews began construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Silver Star Road and Phoenix Drive that will improve traffic flow and enhance safety in the Foothills area. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of September.
The contractor, Chapman Industries Inc., is scheduled to start after the Easter long weekend. Silver Star Road will remain open to through traffic.
During construction, access will be accommodated using bypass roads, detours, and single-lane alternating traffic patterns. Residents who normally use Phoenix Drive will be required to use Foothills Drive (see map below).
We appreciate your patience while we build.

ℹ️About the project
The project includes design and construction of a new roundabout, road reconstruction, new curbs, sidewalks, street lighting (including pedestrian crossing flashers) and drainage upgrades.
Construction of the roundabout will safely accommodate future pedestrian activity as the Upper Foothills and adjacent development build-out, and will control the increased Silver Star Road traffic.
The $1.9-million project is funded through Development Cost Charges.

What to expect during construction
🏘️Local access to neighbourhoods
- Access will be maintained to residents living within the work area, however, from time to time, access may shift daily as work progresses.
- Throughout construction, City staff and the contractor will work directly with residents to share information, ensure continued access, and outline any driveway or parking impacts.
🚙Plan your commute
- Get familiar with the traffic plans and drive cautiously.
- Follow posted signs to navigate safely through these zones.
- Leave extra travel time to get to your destination safely -- traffic pattern changes are expected throughout construction.
- Keep to posted speed limits in residential areas -- they are your neighbours, too.
- Road base conditions may vary due to ongoing reconstruction efforts. Expect uneven surfaces, as well as temporary and gravel sections.
- Most importantly, drive safely to keep workers and other drivers safe.
🚧Temporary construction inconvenience
- Equipment vibration may occur at times while construction activities are underway.
- Dust and noise is a reality. Although every effort is made to minimize dust, you will need to be prepared that dust will be a factor living adjacent to the construction.
- The contractor is responsible for dust abatement and will monitor and take action to water the site as needed.
🏪Support businesses
- Residents and businesses are encouraged to make the extra effort to shop locally.
- Contact the project team directly if your business is experiencing issues due to construction activities. This will be an efficient way to help minimize issues, rather than deterring customers from the area due to negative public perception.
- Traffic delays are expected during construction, however, share ways through your business channels (email, social media, etc) to your customers to keep them informed and engaged.
❓Ask a question
