Introduction

The City of Vernon will be reconstructing portions of 31st Street and 37th Avenue as part of our ongoing commitment to making our City Centre a better place to live, work, and play. This project will include rebuilding the road and replacing aging storm and sewer pipes, as well as new sidewalks and street lighting.

Background

The roadway and pipes in this area are reaching the end of their expected life. Without replacement, it will be more costly to maintain them and they could eventually fail, requiring costly emergency repairs. Work on 37th Avenue will take place from 27th Street to 30th Street. Work on 31st Street will take place from 35th Avenue to 39th Avenue. Reconstruction of 36th Avenue, 37th Avenue, and 38th Avenue between 31st Street and 32nd Street is also planned, and will be contingent upon available funding.

Vernon’s annual capital works program includes a variety of important maintenance projects needed to keep our roads, parks, pipes, and buildings in good shape. This project will result in new road and infrastructure that will serve the community well into the future.

Project Details

Construction is planned to take place between May and December, and will last approximately five months. During this time there may be traffic disruptions. Local residents and businesses will be kept informed by City representatives. More information, including project drawings, can be found using the link below:
