Vernon is a growing city. In order to accommodate growth in a responsible and affordable manner, residential development is encouraged close to existing services and amenities, like schools, parks and shopping. This approach uses existing infrastructure more efficiently, thus having less of a burden on taxpayers, and protects rural and agricultural land.

The 20 acre McMechan Reservior site offers a tremendous opportunity to create a compact residential neighbourhood with park space and trails that is designed to meet the needs of today’s families. The site is designated Small Lot Residential in the Official Community Plan which encourages single family homes

To provide rental opportunities and mortgage helpers, secondary suites and carriage houses are also being encouraged. Detailed engineering, transportation and design work will be ongoing over the next number of months and will inform a rezoning process.

These ideas were guided by the Official Community Plan and will evolve over the next number of months based on public feedback and a rezoning application review process. Prior to any development on the land, development approvals are required.
