Business License Bylaw Review

The City of Vernon is reviewing its Business Licence bylaw and considering updates to provide clarity, as well as implement a new business license for Short Term Rentals. As part of the review process, the City would like to hear your thoughts on Draft Business Licence Bylaw 6100.

Key changes proposed in the draft bylaw:

• Updating definitions: removing unnecessary items and adjusting to current standards.
• Adding exemptions to licensing requirements to support and encourage arts, culture and local agriculture, while maintaining insurance requirements.
• Clarifying how license conditions are established improving transparency.
• Clarifying processes for license management including making an application, and outlining a process for fee collection, license renewals, and license cancellations.
• Clarifying processes when a license is refused or suspended and associated penalties (if applicable).
• Updating and clarifying license specific regulations.
• Establishing new licenses for Short Term Rentals and watercraft businesses.
